2024 Syllabus - Musical Theatre

Cabaret/Revues

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. Own choice of a song from a movie musical, tv musical, stand-along musical theatre songs (i.e. Girl from 14G), revues. Operetta (i.e. Gilbert & Sullivan and Herbert) must be entered into Section 51 and songs from animated or musical films must be entered into Section 81. Care must be taken to ensure that songs chosen did not appear in movie versions first. For example - The Sound of Music - you will find it was first performed in 1959 on Broadway. The Sound of Music, "Movie" - was first produced in 1965. Therefore, any song from The Sound of Music that was in the Broadway show must go in Musical Theatre. When comparing the two songs lists, however, you will see that "I Have Confidence" and "Something Good" were NOT used in the original Broadway production so they would be eligible for Songs from the Screen and More only. In the 2006 Broadway revival version of The Sound of Music, new songs that have been added to the show such as " How Can Love Survive " and "No Way to Stop it", eg. should be entered in Musical Theatre.
