Own Composition

- Own choice of one work written by competitor.
- If work chosen is in hand-written form, it must be legible.
- Works must be performed as written out.
- There will be two adjudicators for this class. One will mark the composition, the other will mark the performance. The marks will be averaged to determine the final mark.
- Piano only - no other instruments or vocals.
- NEW: Participants may enter a class more than once as long as different repertoire is entered. A separate registration is required for each entry.
- A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 25.
- Compositions must be received no later than February 3rd, 2026 by emailing them to office@kiwanismusictoronto.org.
- Performers are encouraged to use music.
- Competitors may qualify for the Provincial Music Festival (June 8-13, 2026) for the composition portion of this class only.
- To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
- Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
- Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
- Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
