  1. No age limit.
  2. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 49, 53, 54, 55, 65 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  3. Competitors entering Open classes may not enter Section 6 (Graded) classes.
  4. A competitor wishing to play a concerto must enter Section 8 Concertos.
  5. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT, Licentiate, or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable.
  6. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of TWO classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  7. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  8. NEW: Participants may enter a class more than once as long as different repertoire is entered. A separate registration is required for each entry.
  9. A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 25.
  10. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  11. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  12. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition (June 2025) upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that a minimum of two (2) pieces are required for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 30, 2025.

Class:10001 - Haydn/Mozart Sonata - ARCT and Above

Any sonata composed by either Haydn or Mozart. Two (2) consecutive movements must be played. The complete sonata may be played if it fits within the time limit. Competitors in this class may not enter Classes 10050-10055.

Class:10002 - Beethoven Sonata - ARCT and Above

An entire sonata drawn from the following list: op. 2 (no. 2 or 3), op. 7, op. 10 (no. 3), op. 13, op. 22, op. 26, op. 27 (no. 2), op. 28, op. 31 (no. 1, 2 or 3), op. 53, op. 54, op. 57, op. 78, op. 81a, op. 90, op. 101, op. 106, op. 109, op. 110, op. 111.
Two (2) consecutive movements must be played. The complete sonata may be played if it fits within the time limit.
Competitors in this class may not enter Class 4-01.

Class:10003 - Romantic Composer Sonata - ARCT and Above

Any sonata (complete) by a composer of the Romantic period, excluding Beethoven.
Two (2) consecutive movements must be played. The complete sonata may be played if it fits within the time limit.

Any sonata (complete) written after 1900.

Any piece by a composer of the Romantic period, excluding Sonatas and Chopin.

Class:10006 - Chopin Major Work - ARCT and Above

One of the following: Ballade; Scherzo; Barcarolle; Fantaisie in F minor, Op. 49; Polonaise-Fantasie in A flat Major, op. 61; Grande Polonaise in E flat, op. 22., or any piece written by Chopin as listed in the Current RCM ARCT (List C) or Licentiate Syllabus. Repeats MUST be played.

A work (or sections from a grouping) by any one composer allied with the Impressionist School (since 1887) such as Debussy, Delius, Ravel.

Any piece written by a Russian Composer that is not a sonata or a concerto, written after 1900.

Own choice of a composition written since 1950 by a Canadian composer. If the piece is not well known, competitors must provide a copy for the adjudicator. If in manuscript form, it must be legible.

Contemporary music written between the years of 1900 and 1959.

Class:10016 - J.S. Bach - 3 contrasting movements from a Suite or Partita

Any 3 contrasting mvts. (to include a slow mvt.) from a Suite or Partita or the Italian Concerto. The Sinfonia of Partita No. 2 will be accepted as 3 mvts.
