Viola - Open

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25, 49, 53, 54, 55, 65 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check Current RCM and Conservatory Canada lists. Competitors may not enter Advanced or Graded classes.
  3. All selections must be played from memory except in classes 41004.
  4. NEW: Participants may enter a class more than once as long as different repertoire is entered. A separate registration is required for each entry.
  5. A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 25.
  6. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  7. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  8. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  9. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  10. All classes (except 41001) iin this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition which will be held in Kitchener-Waterloo, June 9-14, 2025, upon adjudicator recommendation.
    Participants should be aware that a minimum of 3 pieces are required for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 30, 2025.

One or two mvts. from a viola concerto by composers such as: Barber, Bartok, Bruch, Dvorak, Elgar, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Paganini, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Wieniawski.
Time limit: 25 minutes
No repeats are to be played.

One or two consecutive mvts. from a violia concerto by composers such as: Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart.
