Music, Speech Arts & Visual Arts Syllabus - 2025 - Songs from the Screen and More
Traditional (Before 1945)
- Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
- New: Participants may enter a class more than once as long as different repertoire is entered. A separate registration is required for each entry.
- A piece of music, whether prescribed or own choice, cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class.
- To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of TWO classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
- Maximum performance time - 6 Minutes.
- Music choices DO NOT have to be from RCM or Conservatory Canada Lists and.
- Selections must be songs that were written before 1945 and were written for, or first appeared in a movie or film.
- Musical Theatre, Popular Voice and Classical Vocal songs are not permitted.
- Sheet music must be provided to the adjudicators (No charts or tabs permitted).
- Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
- Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
- Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
- All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition which will be held in Kitchener-Waterloo, June 9-14, 2025, upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that 2 pieces are required for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 30, 2025.
