Music, Speech Arts & Visual Arts Syllabus - 2025 - Percussion

Solos

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 22, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. NEW: Participants may enter a class more than once as long as different repertoire is entered. A separate registration is required for each entry.
  3. A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 25.
  4. Memorization is optional but recommended.
  5. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of TWO classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  6. Da capo and dal segno signs must be played. Repeats should NOT be played unless otherwise indicated in either the RCM or CC Syllabus.
  7. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  8. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  9. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  10. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition which will be held in Kitchener-Waterloo, June 9-14, 2025, upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware of Provincials rules (omfa.ca/syllabus) for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 30, 2025.

Class:80001 - Advanced - Ages 19-28

Three (3) selections consisting of contrasting styles to include work on any of two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
- One (1) selection for Keyboard Percussion (e.g. marimba, vibraphone, xylophone)
- One (1) Selection for Timpani, multi-percussion or Snare Drum.
- One (1) own choice selection.
Memorization of multi-instrument pieces is encouraged but not required.
Piano accompaniment is not permitted.
Time limit: 40 minutes

Class:80002 - Senior - Ages 17-18

Three (3) selections consisting of contrasting styles to include work on any of two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.

- One (1) own choice selection.
