Folk Songs

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. Own choice selection must be of valid folk song nature, not 'pop'.
  3. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  4. Accompaniment may be either piano or guitar.
  5. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  6. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  7. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  8. Please note that classes in this section do NOT qualify to proceed to the Provincial Finals (held in June, 2024). Pieces that are listed in the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada syllabus should be entered in Section 53.
