Contemporary Composers (including Canadian & Indigenous Composers)

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 22, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules and regulations with care..
  2. Own choice of one or two works written after 1960 by a Canadian, Indigenous or Contemporary composer.
  3. If work chosen is in manuscript form, it must be legible. For competitors who wish to play their own compositions, see Section 6.
  4. NO REPEATS ARE TO BE PLAYED.
  5. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  6. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  7. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  8. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  9. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition (June, 2024) upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that 2 pieces are required for the Provincial Finals and that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 25, 2024.
