2024 Syllabus - Composition - Original Composition
Original Composition
- Works will be adjudicated on originality and competence in handling form, harmony, melody and rhythm.
- Scores must be clear and legible with all bars numbered; photocopies are acceptable. Scores must be received in the Festival Office by February 5th by email to office@kiwanismusictoronto.org. Entrants are advised to keep a copy.
- Decisions on winners are reached by the adjudicator reading the scores. Recordings will not be considered (except for class 75025) and should not be submitted.
- Minimum Current RCM Grade 4 theory recommended for classes age 19 and over.
- Please note that compositions are not performed in this category. See Sections 5 (Piano) and 70 (Popular Voice) in this syllabus for performance opportunities.
- Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
- All classes (except variations on a theme) in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition (June, 2024) upon adjudicator recommendation. Participants should be aware that the Provincial's registration deadline will be March 25, 2024.
