Music and movement offers many benefits to a child’s development: social skills, expression of emotions, balance, coordination, rhythm, creativity and imagination. Teaching and reinforcing the basic movements of dance to children ages 2-5 can be FUN! This class will explore programming for preschoolers and cover the following: engaging children, class structure/layout, staying safe while learning at home, using props and themes in class and above all having FUN!
10:45 a.m11:45 a.m.Mindful Dancer – Lauren Richie
As a human, we can train three things, the mind, body and craft. As dance educators, we have spent years building and nurturing body and craft, but have not yet accessed the power of mental skills within our leadership, teaching, and classes. In this session, Lauren will share the research and foundations of mental skills; exercises that can be easily applied in a dance class; mindset practices that foster awareness, resilience, and motivation both in and out of the dance studio space.
12:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m.How to Approach Choreography – Kerry Gage
Kerry Gage is a Dora Award winning choreographer. Come join her for this thought provoking workshop in which we explore the art of choreography. Topics will include how to get your creativity in full gear for choreographing during Covid, rejuvenating your repertoire, tools to stay inspired, and resource tips. Let’s share and explore together the joy of the creative process.

Saturday, May 15, 2021 – FREE Dance Classes

9:30 a.m.10:30 a.m.Hip Hop – Katie Chartrand
These classes will focus on the fundamentals of grooving and include choreography that pull from both jazz funk and street styles. Focus will be brought to the details in completing our shapes with strength and connecting and understanding transitions through choreography.
Jazz – Kimberly Kay
This class will focus on jazz technique as well as vital tools to help dancers pick up and learn choreography that will be beneficial with future auditions, class work and competitive numbers . This high energy class will explore different styles of jazz and expose dancers to a wide variety of small technical combinations within the hour class.
10:45 a.m.11:45 a.m.Jazz – Kimberly Kay
This class will focus on building strong jazz technique with a solid ballet foundation. The class will work on proper placement, importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy and style. Students will be stretched, do a series of jumps and turns, followed by a fun combination.
Hip Hop – Katie Chartrand
These classes will focus on the fundamentals of grooving and include choreography that pull from both jazz funk and street styles. Focus will be brought to the details in completing our shapes with strength and connecting and understanding transitions through choreography.

2:00 p.m.Tap – Jay Schramek
A fun interactive class with a focus on musicality & counting. Together we’ll discover how music theory applies to our tap work, we’ll expand our repertoire and finish with an energetic and fun combination!
Ballet – Gerard McIsaac
The Ballet Master Class will consist of a classical variation, modified for age appropriateness to each group age level, with the goal of exploring the transition from Studio to Stage work both technical and artistically!

An exciting opportunity to learn new vocabulary, expand technique and dance a challenging combination!
3:30 p.m.
4:30 p.m.Contemporary – Katie Chartrand
In this class we will explore key concepts of contemporary dance and push individual boundaries through choreography and how we approach it. Focus will be on bringing weight into our movement and finding a complete release as well as understanding how to follow through with our contractions. Concepts involving floor work will also be explored, helping dancers understand how to smoothly transition from standing into floor work.

A fun class including music and dance from Africa and the African Diaspora such as Afro-beat, Reggae, Soca, Dancehall, Reggaeton, and so much more

4:00 p.m.Bhangra – Gurdeep Pandher
Bhangra is the traditional dance of Punjab. A long time ago, Punjabi-Sikh farmers started to use different aspects of farming to create a dance form. This farming influenced a style of dance that celebrates food – growing, harvesting and relationship to the land which they later called Bhangra.
