Section 20: Open Voice – Concert Recital Songs – English – ARCT & Above

Section Notes

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23 and 47. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. Competitors must be age 18 or over.
  3. Own choice of three songs which are not specified test pieces and are not from oratorios or operas.
  4. All songs must be of English, Canadian or American derivation and must be composed to English words.
  5. Competitors may enter in only one voice classification in Sections 20-31 and may not enter Advanced or Graded Classes.
  6. A piece of music, whether prescribed or own choice, cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 23.
  7. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check Current RCM and Conservatory Canada lists.
  8. Entrants hoping to proceed to the Provincial Finals (June, 2023) may enter any class in Sections 20-31(“P”), but must be under the age of 28.
  9. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  10.  Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  11. Participants have the option to participate either “in person” or “virtually”.  This decision must be made at the time of registration.

Section 21: Open Voice – Concert Recital Songs – Foreign Language – ARCT & Above

  2. Must be Age 18 or over.
  3. Own choice of three songs in any three different languages. (English may NOT be used).
  4. Competitors may enter in only one voice classification in Sections 20-31 and may not enter Advanced or Graded Classes.
  5. Translations of songs, into English must be provided.
  6. A test piece, whether prescribed or own choice, cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 23.

Section 22: Open Voice – Grand Opera – ARCT & Above

Section 24: Open Voice – 20th Century Contemporary Opera – ARCT & Above

Section 25: Open Voice – 21st Century Contemporary Opera – ARCT & Above

  5. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check Current RCM and Conservatory Canada lists.
  6. Entrants hoping to proceed to the Provincial Finals (June, 2023) may enter any class in Sections 20-31 (“P”), but must be under the age of 28.
  7. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.

Section 30: Open Voice – French or Italian Art Songs – ARCT & Above

  3. Own choice of two songs by any French or Italian composer or composers including but not limited to Berlioz, Gounod, Duparc, Chausson, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel or Poulenc/ Bellini, Donaudy, Donizetti or Tosti.
  4. Competitors may enter in only one voice classification in Sections 20-31 and may not enter Advanced or Graded Classes.
  5. Translations of songs, into English, must be provided.

  4. All music in this section must be listed in the current RCM and Conservatory ARCT syllabus. Grade 10 or lower not acceptable.
