Section 195: Secondary School Bands

Section Notes

  1. Refer to Rules 12, 18, 19 and 37. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. Competitors must number first bars of each line of music submitted.
  3. Time limit 20 minutes. This includes assembly, tuning, warm-up and performance.
  4. Schools to arrange all percussion needs.
  5. A band may enter only one of ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ classes which are graded according to piece difficulty, ‘A’ being the most difficult. The Best of (or first place in an undivided class) winner of a ‘B’ or ‘C’ class one year are encouraged to move to the next level.
  6. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.

Class 195-01 – Secondary School Bands – Challenge
Fee: $140.00
Repertoire: Own choice of two selections of Level 5 difficulty or above from the Official NYSSMA Manual. All scores must be presented to the adjudicator’s secretary before the end of the morning session on the day of the competition. If either selection is deemed by the adjudicator not to be at the appropriate level of difficulty, the competitor will be disqualified. Adjudicators will select the one to be played. Should this class receive more than 7 entries, it will be divided between afternoon and evening sessions. In general, bands with the highest marks from the previous year’s competition will be heard in the evening.
