Section 85: Recorder
Section Notes
- Refer to Rules 9, 17, 18, 32 and 37. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
- Competitors may enter a maximum of three classes.
- Memorization is optional in all recorder classes.
- Own choice classes time limit 7 minutes unless otherwise specified.
- Competitors should be aware that all classes marked with a “P” make a competitor potentially eligible to proceed to the Provincial finals (June, 2019) and for class 85-01 to the National Music Festival (August, 2019) and all graded pieces must be listed at in either the Current RCM or Conservatory Canada Syllabus.
- To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
- A test piece, whether prescribed or own choice, cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 38.
- The Festival does not make music stands available to competitors in solo or small group classes.
- Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
Class SR85-01 – Recorder Solo – Open – Concerto (“P”)

Two mvts. of a concerto. Time limit 20 mins.
Class 85-02 – Recorder Solo – Sonata
Fee: $48.00
Own choice of one selection. Time limit 20 mins.
Class 85-03 – Recorder Solo – Open
Fee: $48.00
Own choice of one selection. Concerto and Sonata not permitted. Time limit 20 mins.

Section 86: Recorder Ensembles – NEW!

- Own choice classes time limit 7 minutes unless otherwise specified.
- School groups are eligible to enter in this Section.
- Ensembles are given the choice of EITHER attending the festival “live” or having the option to record the group’s performance and sending it to the festival via dropbox or private youtube link. If recording is chosen, the entry form must still arrive at the office by November 30th. The Recorded portion must be emailed to the office by February 6, 2019.
- No accompaniment, piano or otherwise, permitted for ensemble classes, except in classes 86-08, 86-10, 86-12, 86-13, 86-15 and 86-16.
