Section 135: Percussion Solos

Section Notes

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 21, 23, 40 and 47.
  2. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  3. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  4. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to the Provincial level of competition (June, 2022).
  5. Participants will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  6. It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video.

Class 80001 – Percussion – Advanced – Ages 19-28 (“P”)
Fee: $45.00

Three (3) selections consisting of contrasting styles to include work on any of two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
– One (1) selection for Keyboard Percussion (e.g. marimba, vibraphone, xylophone)
– One (1) Selection for Timpani, multi-percussion or Snare Drum.
– One (1) own choice selection.
Memorization of multi-instrument pieces is encouraged but not required.
Piano accompaniment is not permitted.
Time limit: 40 minutes

Class 80002 – Percussion – Senior – Ages 17-18 (“P”)
Fee: $45.00

Three (3) selections consisting of contrasting styles to include work on any of two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
– One (1) selection for Keyboard Percussion (e.g. marimba, vibraphone, xylophone)
– One (1) Selection for Timpani, multi-percussion or Snare Drum.
– One (1) own choice selection.
Memorization of multi-instrument pieces is encouraged but not required.

Time Limit: Thirty (30) Minutes

Class 80003 – Percussion – Intermediate – Ages 15-16 (“P”)
Fee: $45.00

Two (2) selections of contrasting styles to include work on any two of mallets, tympani or snare drum.
– One selection for Keyboard Percussion (e.g. marimba, vibraphone, xylophone)
– One Selection for Timpani, multi-percussion or Snare Drum.
Memorization of multi-instrument pieces is encouraged but not required.
Piano accompaniment is not permitted.Time Limit: Twenty (20) minutes

Class 80004 – Percussion – Junior – Ages 13-14 (“P”)
Fee: $44.00

Two (2) selections of contrasting styles.
It is encouraged that pieces include any two of keyboard percussion, tympani, or snare drum.
Time Limit: Ten (10) minutes

Class 80005 – Percussion – Elementary – Ages 11-12 (“P”)
Fee: $44.00

Two (2) selections of contrasting styles.
It is encouraged that pieces include any two of keyboard percussion, tympani, or snare drum.
Time Limit: Ten (10) minutes

Class 80006 – Percussion – Primary – Ages 9-10 (“P”)
Fee: $42.00

Two (2) selections of contrasting styles.
It is encouraged that pieces include any two of keyboard percussion, tympani, or snare drum.
Time Limit: Ten (10) minutes

Class 80007 – Percussion – Beginner – Ages 6-8 (“P”)
Fee: $42.00

Two (2) selections of contrasting styles.
It is encouraged that pieces include any two of keyboard percussion, tympani, or snare drum.
Time Limit: Ten (10) minutes

Section 136: Percussion Later Tuition

Section Notes

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 21, 23, 40 and 47. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. Own choice of two or more contrasting selections.
  3. All classes in section 136 qualify to proceed to the Provincial Music Festival (June, 2022) upon adjudicator recommendation.
  4. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  5. Participants will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office.
  6. It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video.


Class 80010 – Percussion Solo – Later Tuition – Adult – 29 or over – 5 Years of Training or Less (“P”)

Fee: $48.00
Own choice of two or more contrasting selections.
Time limit: 15 minutes

Class 80011 – Percussion Solo – Later Tuition – Adult – 29 or over – 6 to 9 Years of Training (“P”)
Fee: $53.00
Own choice of two or more contrasting selections.
Time limit: 25 minutes

Class 80012 – Percussion Solo – Later Tuition – Adult – 29 or over – 10 Years of Training or More (“P”)
Fee: $53.00
Own choice of two or more contrasting selections.
Time limit: 35 minute

 

 

Section 137: Percussion Duets or Trios

  2. Memorization is optional, but encouraged.
  3. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  4. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  5. All classes in this section are eligible to proceed to Provincials (June, 2022) and are marked with a “P”.
  6. For the purposes of this section, competitors ages should be averaged to determine which class to enter.
  7. Participants will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
  8. It is the competitor’s responsibility to abide by any and all government guidelines regarding physical distancing as of the date you submit your video.

Class 80023 – Percussion Duets and Trios – Adult & Child (“P”)
Fee: $50.00

Own choice of one selection.
Time limit: 10 minutes
Adult is defined as a parent, grandparent, guardian, aunt, uncle or older sibling.
Memorization not required.  If the Adult is also a teacher, competitors should enter class 80024.

Class 80024 – Percussion Duets and Trios – Teacher & Child
Fee: $50.00

Own choice of one selection.
Time limit: 10 minutes
