Section 6000: Senior Brass Solo – Provincial/National Qualifying Class

Section Notes

  1. Must be under the age of 28 as of December 31, 2018.
  2. Perform two consecutive movements from a concerto or concerted work that is at the Grade 10 level/ARCT or equivalent level as well as a contrasting piece of similar level. What you indicate on your entry form is what you will be expected to play. Make sure that your pieces will fit into the time limit as noted in #4 below. (Please note: at least two consecutive movements of the concerto must be performed at the Provincial Level. The complete concerto must be performed at the National Level.)
  3. NEW!!! All pieces in section 6000, no longer need to be memorized – but it is strongly encouraged..
  4. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  5. Time limit: 45 minutes.
  6. It is EXPECTED that the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Provincial/National Qualifying Class will proceed to the Provincial Finals (June 3-8, 2019) in Niagara Falls, Ontario and if they win there, to then be available to compete at the National Music Festival (August 5-10, 2019) in Saskatoon, SK.
    Provincial Note: You will be playing your National program at the Provincial Festival.
  7. Competitors may also enter classes in Sections 90.
  8. This class is the only qualifying class for the President’s Trophy and Provincial/National Recommendation.
Class 6000 – Brass Provincial/National Qualifying Class(“P”)
Fee: $95.00
    1. Cancel Minimum of two consecutive movements from a concerto or concerted work at the ARCT level. Orchestra part to played on second piano.
    2. Own choice of a contrasting selection (a second concerto is not permitted)

Time limit: 45 minutes

Section 90: Brass Solos – Senior

Section Notes

  1. Refer to Rules 9, 17, 18, 32 and 37. Read all Syllabus rules with care.
  2. NEW! In all Open classes (90-01 to 90-09), selections no longer need to be memorized, but it is strongly encouraged.
  3. All music for Open classes (90-01 to 90-09) must be of at least GRADE 10 level or above. Competitors to check Current RCM and Conservatory Canada lists.
  4. Entrants hoping to proceed to Provincial (June, 2019) or National (August, 2019) competitions MUST enter section 6000.
  5. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  6. The Festival does not make music stands available to competitors in solo or small group classes.
  7. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.

Section 91: Brass Solos

  2. Memorization is optional but recommended.
  3. Competitors should be aware that all classes marked with a “P” make a competitor potentially eligible to proceed to the Provincial finals (June, 2019)
  4. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  5. The Festival does not make music stands available to competitors in solo or small group classes.
