Own Composition

  1. Refer to Rules 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 22, 24, 49, 52, 64 and 80. Read all Syllabus rules and regulations with care.
  2. Own choice of one or two works written by competitor.
  3. If work chosen is in hand-written form, it must be legible.
  4. Works must be performed as written out.
  5. There will be two adjudicators for this class. One will mark the composition, the other will mark the performance. The marks will be averaged to determine the final mark.
  6. Piano only - no other instruments or vocals.
  7. Compositions must be received no later than February 5th by emailing them to office@kiwanismusictoronto.org.
  8. Performers are encouraged to use music.
  9. Competitors wishing to qualify for the Provincial Music Festival (June, 2024) must enter appropriate classes in Open (Section 1), Advanced (Section 2), or Graded Pieces (Section 6). Classes in this section do not qualify for Provincials.
  10. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  11. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  12. Participants have the option to participate either "in person" or "virtually". This decision must be made at the time of registration.
  13. Participants who choose the virtual option will be responsible for arranging to have a video recording made of their performance and for creating a YouTube channel that can be shared with the Toronto Kiwanis Festival Office via the online registration system.
