Section 5000: Senior Woodwind Solo – Provincial/National Qualifying Class

Section Notes

  1. Must be under the age of 28 as of December 31, 2016.
  2. Perform two consecutive movements from a concerto or concerted work that is at the ARCT or equivalent level as well as a contrasting piece of similar level. What you indicate on your entry form is what you will be expected to play. Make sure that your pieces will fit into the time limit as noted in #4 below. (Please note: at least two consecutive movements of the concerto must be performed at the Provincial Level. The complete concerto must be performed at the National Level.)
  3. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  4. Time limit: 45 minutes.
  5. The winner of this class will be asked to play in the President’s Trophy Competition held on Monday, March 20, 2017, competing for a $1,000 grand prize.
  6. It is expected that the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Provincial/National Qualifying Class will proceed to the Provincial Finals (May 28 to June 3, 2017) in Hamilton, Ontario and if they win there, to then be available to compete at the National Music Festival (August 9-13, 2017) in Ottawa, ON.
    Provincial Note: You will be playing your National program at the Provincial Festival.
  7. Competitors may also enter classes in Section75.
  8. This class is the only qualifying class for the President’s Trophy and Provincial/National Recommendation.
Class 5000 – Woodwind Provincial/National Qualifying Class(“P”)

  2. In all Open (SR) classes, selections must be memorized. Memorization is optional in all other woodwind classes.
  3. All music for Open classes (SR75-01 to SR75-15) must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check Current RCM lists.
  4. To be eligible for a scholarship, competitors must enter a minimum of two classes and receive a minimum mark of 85.
  5. Entrants hoping to proceed to Provincial (June, 2017) or National (August, 2017) competitions MUST enter section 5000.
  6. A piece cannot be used by a competitor in more than one class. Repertoire which does not coincide with stated categories will result in disqualification. See Rule 37.
