Section 2000: Senior Voice Solo – Provincial/National Qualifying Class

Section Notes

  1. Must be under the age of 28 as of December 31, 2016.
  2. Competitors will perform the following repertoire which must be at the ARCT level or equivalent:
    One selection of an opera aria, with recitative where applicable, original key, original language;
    One selection of a Sacred Aria, with recitative where applicable;
    Three movements of a multi-movement song cycle.
    Make sure that your pieces will fit into the time limit as noted in #4 below.
  3. Performance times MUST be included on the entry form.
  4. Time limit: 45 minutes.
  5. The winner of this class will be asked to play in the President’s Trophy Competition held on Monday, March 20, 2017, competing for a $1,000 grand prize.
  6. It is expected that the 1st and 2nd place winners of the Provincial/National Qualifying Class will proceed to the Provincial Finals (May 28 to June 3, 2017) in Hamilton, Ontario and if they win there, to then be available to compete at the National Music Festival (August 9-13, 2017) in Ottawa, ON.
    Provincial Note: You will be singing the repertoire sung a the local festival at the Provincial festival, except you must perform at least three movements of the song cycle. In the National competition you will be required to perform and opera aria, a sacred aria, 4 movements or a complete song cycle as well as two own choice selections.
  7. Competitors may also enter classes in either the Senior or Intermediate vocal classes.
  8. All music in this section must be of at least ARCT or equivalent level (not necessarily on current lists). Grade 10 or lower not acceptable. Competitors to check Current RCM and Conservatory Canada lists.
  9. Competitors are also able to enter classes Section 1. Please note, however, that repertoire may not be repeated in other classes.
Class 2000 – Vocal Provincial/National Qualifying Class(“P”)
